NEWPORT NEWS, VA — A tragic accident on Interstate 64 resulted in the death of a Connecticut man this past Saturday evening. Virginia State Police are currently investigating the incident, which occurred at the 249-mile marker in the city of Newport News at approximately 7:48 p.m.

Christopher R. Deigel, 40, of North Stonington, Connecticut, was traveling westbound in the center lane in a 2005 Ford Mustang GT when he lost control of the vehicle. The car veered off the right side of the interstate and collided with the end of a guardrail. Deigel was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities reported that Deigel was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

    On Thursday, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested 22-year-old Dayquan Henderson of Southeast, D.C., according to a DC Superior Court arrest warrant.

    The suspect has been charged with Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (Gun). Authorities confirmed that the victims and the suspect were acquainted.
