Mr. Edmund Michael Banks, Jr., age 81, of Monroe, Georgia, passed away Thursday, July 4, 2024, at home surrounded by his family.

Edmund was born on Thursday, May 13, 1943, in Plymouth, Devonshire England to the late Edmund Michael Urbanski, Sr. and the late Elizabeth Thomas Szulczewski. He was preceded in death by his son, Chuck Martin and his two brothers, George and Chris Banks. Edmund was a member of St. Stephens Anglican Catholic Church.

Edmund is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Shirley Banks; children and their spouses, Andy Banks, Jennifer (Bobby) Christopher, Paul (Tammy) Martin, Aimee (Billy) Leazer, Samantha Martin; grandchildren and their spouses, Matthew Christopher, Jeffery (Jessica) Martin, Kolton (Sophia) Martin, Savannah (Johnathan) Elgie, Haley Leazer, Mason Martin, Tucker Martin; great-grandchildren, Blakelynn Martin, Sadie Dulay, Chase Martin, Kason Martin, Hunter Martin; siblings and their spouses, Liz (David) Carr, Paul (Klara) Urbanski, Gary (Twinkles) Urbanski, Craig Urbanski, Rosa Hodgins; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Edmund spent his career working with his brother-in-law, David, and most recently, his nephews, Jon and Jason, as a client liaison, specializing in hospice inpatient services. He was an integral part in the development of acute hospice pharmacy care in the inpatient setting in North Georgia over the last 20 years. Edmund will be best remembered for his patient/client first attitude. He was a problem solver by nature and a selfless professional. Edmund was adored by his co-workers and clients, and his nephews valued the lessons he taught them. He was very musically inclined, he played the bagpipes, piano, accordion, and organ. He enjoyed playing the piano just so Daisy would sing along with him. Edmund loved traveling, especially when it came to going on cruises with his wife, and his favorite conversation topic of choice was always politics. He was very proud of who he was and his heritage, he was “The Polish Ambassador”, and, if you asked him, he was the ULTIMATE immigrant. Unless you were one of his children or grandchildren, the way you knew if he liked you or not was if you had a nickname. Edmund always took pride in his appearance, especially his hair and always had to be clean shaven. He was a very kind and generous man who never met a stranger, a very loving and devoted husband, father, grand-father, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to so many people. Edmund was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society. https://donate.cancer.org.
