"You don't need to be an extrovert. Shift your mindset."Wednesday, Cassie Yoder of Cass Concepts, shared her journey from being our age and having her own radio show, to owning her own marketing and event planning business. We're not all extroverts, but Yoder showed us we don't have to be to make it in business. We just need to view each interaction as a chance to network. "To me, networking was a game."Yoder's business persona is definitely outgoing, but, she doesn't consider herself extroverted. "At the end of the day, it's silent. I need to recharge differently."Can we all make the sales pitch? Can we walk up to a stranger and introduce ourselves? Yes. "Try to do little things to connect. It depends on a person's mindset."Yoder also introduced SWOT analysis to us: Strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats. SWOT is essential for any business, but also for us as individuals. You have to separate your ego. "You have to have people in your life where you're open to constructive criticism."Yoder also believes that teachers and other adults in our life can see little things we're good at, that could shape our future. "Be brazen enough to say, 'I'm in the CEO program. What do you think I'm good at? Years ago, I was told 'You're really good at public speaking.'" Also, "There's little things from your childhood." Can you develop and grow from that?Yoder sees marketing as story telling. Through Cass Concepts and the Prairie Commons Business Collective, she helps small businesses and start-ups tell their stories. After all, small business are integral to our communities. As for advice with our own class business, Yoder really got us thinking. Now we're considering a change to our target date, based on a mini-SWOT analysis. We cannot wait to work with Cassie Yoder throughout the year! She seems like a great mentor for all of us - not just for marketing, but helping us develop our mindsets to succeed.Once again, thank you to MasterBrand for giving us space to meet.

Don't pitch your product without understanding the worldview of your audience. In his groundbreaking book All Marketers Tell Stories, author Seth Godin defines a “worldview” as the rules, values, beliefs, and biases people bring to a situation. Good marketing is NOT about changing a person’s worldview, but instead framing your story in terms of their pre-existing worldview. The same is true when pitching. All entrepreneurs tell business model stories. Good pitching is NOT about brute-forcing your solution on others but instead framing your business model/product story in terms of your audience’s pre-existing worldview. In this case, your audience comprises team members, customers, advisors, investors, and even competitors. Understanding your audiences' worldviews is the first step to developing a compelling pitch. In tomorrow’s Running Lean Mastery newsletter, I’ll share the different worldviews to a product and outline steps for creating a compelling pitch for each. Subscribe below.

As a business leader you're the single, biggest marketing asset to your business. You know you need to be daring, and stand out, everyday. But, as leaders, we often believe our main role is to empower others, which means we spend too much of our time behind the scenes. And because of our position as a ‘professional,’ we hold back from revealing our true selves. So, then it doesn’t matter how big your passion is or how great your vision for making positive change, you can still struggle with breaking through with your message. And if you’re not getting your message to the world – you end up working way too hard and not reaching the goals you desire.Afterworking with 100s of coaches, consultants and entrepreneurs, theseare the 3most common things I see holding people (likeyou) back from using video to showcase their personal brand:❌ You’re concerned that if you’re making videos yourself you won’t look professional enough.❌ You’reoverwhelmedwith today’s technology andthe whole idea of making video feels daunting.❌ You’re maxed out with not enough time in the day to keep up with daily tasks, let alone reaching out and engaging new people. But what if…✅ You looked professional & at ease on video while sharing your passion and vision?✅ You introduced the best version of yourself to the kinds of people you’d really like to work with?✅ You shared a message that’s perpetual, that grows on its own and does your selling for you 24/7?✅ You hadmoretime to do the work you’re passionate about?I’ve seen too many entrepreneurs struggling because they’re spending too much time on marketing without getting the results they want, which is why I’ve developed the step-by-stepClients On Videocontent strategy that transforms your social media and email marketing into binge-worthy content that captures new clients & customers.Want to learn more?
