Get ready to be inspired! The Montclair Police Athletic League (PAL) and Montclair Recreation Basketball are kicking off a brand-new season, and it's already packed with excitement. Boys and girls in grades 5 through 8 are lacing up their sneakers and hitting the court this weekend, ready to compete in the Garden State Suburban League.
The season's launch was nothing short of spectacular, thanks to a visit from a true hometown hero: Myisha Hines-Allen, a Montclair PAL alum and current WNBA star with the Dallas Wings. She brought some serious star power with her, including teammates Ariel Atkins, Aziaha James, and Paige Beckers, along with a team of coaches and volunteers. Imagine the thrill as young athletes spent the day training with four current WNBA players, honing their skills and receiving awesome gifts from the players and sponsors. Talk about a dream come true!
And that's not all! Montclair PAL is also celebrating the impressive performance of its 7th-grade boys' team, coached by Zo, who secured a well-deserved second-place finish in the Wayne PAL 2025 Turkey Shootout.
Now, here's where you come in! As the season gains momentum, Montclair PAL is actively seeking dedicated volunteers to help make this season a success. If you're passionate about basketball and want to make a difference, consider coaching! You can apply online or contact Coach Williams at 973-509-4729 or twilliams@montclairpal.org.
But here's where it gets controversial... What do you think about the impact of professional athletes giving back to their communities? Is it essential for inspiring the next generation, or is there more that can be done? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
