What Makes This Instant Pot Strata Recipe Incredible?

Delicious. Perfectly fluffy eggs. Perfectly cooked veggies. Ooey, gooey cheese. Delicious sourdough bread. This strata recipe is everything you could possibly want in a quick breakfast/brunch recipe. It might even be the best breakfast casserole recipe I've ever made!

Quick. Make this delectable breakfast dish in just 20 minutes! Who doesn't love a wonderfully tasty dish that they can make in less than 30 minutes?

Easy. There isn't much more to this recipe than mixing the ingredients together and cooking them. In fact, you can even mix the ingredients together the night before if you're the meal prepping type, making this a fantastic Christmas breakfast casserole option.

Instant Pot. This recipe is made even easier thanks to your Instant Pot. I seriously wonder sometimes what I would do if I didn't have my Instant Pot. Eat out a lot more, that's what, and we all know how unhealthy and expensive constantly eating out can be.

How Do You Make This Strata Recipe?

  1. Grease. Thoroughly cover a 6 x 3 springform pan with grease and set aside. Grease it very well, or use a circle of parchment paper to line the bottom of the dish for extra easy removal.
  2. Mix. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, half and half (or milk), and salt and pepper. Stir in bread, cheese, spinach, and green onions.
  3. Pour. Pour the mixture into the greased pan.
  4. Place. Put 1.5 cups of water into the Instant Pot. Place a steamer rack in the pot. Place the bread and egg mixture on the rack.
  5. Cook. Close the lid. Press PRESSURE COOK and cook on HIGH PRESSURE for 15 minutes. Allow the pot to rest undisturbed for 10 minutes, and then release all remaining pressure.
  6. Remove. Carefully remove the pan from the rack and ensure the strata is cooked through. You may need to use a paper towel to pat the top of the frittata dry. Allow it to cook a little from the residual heat before releasing the sides of the springform pan.
  7. Serve. Slice it up and enjoy!

What Is The Difference Between A Strata, A Frittata, And A Quiche?

Though the three can seem quite similar, they all have distinct characteristics that separate them from each other. Here are how they differentiate from each other:

Quiche Recipe

A quiche is an egg, veggie (and sometimes meat) mixture that has a crust.

Frittata Recipe

Unlike a quiche, a frittata is crustless. It often involves pre-cooking some ingredients in a skillet, and then often finishing them off in the oven. Check out my Herb and Cheese Frittata, Asparagus Cheese Frittata or Broccoli Frittata with Ham and Peppers for some delicious frittata recipes.

Strata Recipe

A strata (which means layers) usually involves layers of egg, milk, cheese, etc baked into a casserole.

Can This Strata Recipe Be Refrigerated Before Cooking?

A lot of strata recipes call for you to put the recipe together the night before and refrigerate it overnight. This allows the bread to soak up more of the egg mixture.

I've found that this isn't necessary when making this easy breakfast casserole in a pressure cooker, but you can certainly put it together the night before for a simple make-ahead breakfast. However, I wouldn't allow this strata recipe to refrigerate uncooked for any longer than overnight.

Mine tasted wonderful! But I did have a problem with egg mixture leaking out of my Fat Daddio 6-inch pan. Any suggestions for how to prevent that from happening?

Hi Urvashi, I made your Strata recipe last night fir dinner.
I did put bacon in it, which I cooked first...lots of spinach and an assortment of shredded cheeses and all of the other good stuff in your recipe...however, it didn’t get fully cooked in the Instant Pot. I took it out and covered it with tin foil and placed it in the oven on a cookie sheet at 400 degrees for. about 10 minutes..it cooked and tasted yummy! Thanks for another amazing recipe.

Did you use a lot of spinach? It releases so much water that it slows down cooking sometimes
